Final Windows 10 Upgrade update. 19/09/2015

With over 110 installations now achieved I can honestly say that an upgrade has never been more successful than moving to Windows 10.

I have had lots of phone calls asking me ' why cant I do this update myself ? ' . I always reply ' you can but please refer to my blog for possible issues ' If you are confident that you have backed your data up, emails, pictures, documents and drivers etc and if you have a ' non standard ' tower ensure you have what's needed then its up to you. I have had about 10 machines and a few more phone calls from people updating themselves, some of which have crashed, some have lost data and some have had success but find that its knocked something else out.

I have been sent various emails about other ways to upgrade by viewing post's from American forums etc. I offer the service how I feel it should be done and proven with a 100 machines achieved, but if you wish to find another way then it is your choice.

Here are some of the issues I have found but I have of course put right and any recommendations needed.

  • Printer / Scanner drivers / communications lost
  • Unable to send emails after upgrade in outlook
  • Slow start up and show downs due to further updates
  • Loss of small data files ( always back up first )
  • A small amount of pc's cannot be upgraded but it states that your upgrade is ready
  • More memory is a must if you are running below 3gig
  • Edge favourites cant be organised as yet
  • The world's ' favourite ' virus programmes causing the update to fail or crash
  • Possible problems with SD cards and camera's causing problems with importing pictures ( updated 23/08/2015 I have yet to find this a problem on the pc's I have revisited )
  • Some older programmes that run in 8 not running in 10 ( can usually be made to work )
  • A few people saying that the layout has changed from a Windows 8 / 8.1 computer that I had worked on ( upon a revisit its the colour of the task bar that has changed )
  • Duplicates of photos displayed in Picasa ( these are just the backup created to protect your original pictures )
  • Some Windows upgrades cannot be done in your home if your speed of broadband is slow.
  • A loss of sound on a few Pc's ( these just need reinstalling and is now checked at my office )
  • Windows games no longer available in the traditional way. You either must sign up for a Microsoft account or simply search for Solitaire etc to play online.
  • Loss of contact in Windows mail not coming over from Windows 8.1
  • Windows updates updating ' non genuine ' software.
