Let me take a moment to thank all my previous customers for all the support and recommendations you have all been so generous with in the last year.  I look forward to seeing you in the year 2015 and beyond.....


To end the year, here a few interesting facts.

• I have downloaded 14240gb of data in the last year ( the average house uses 240 per year )
• Over 327600 updates in the last year
• Removed over 31200 virus's in the last year
• Answered 1352 emails from customers
• Answered 1820 phone calls relating to my business
• Destroyed 150 laptops and desktops that had seen better days
• The largest amount of photo's I had to back up before work could be carried out was a staggering 144000
• The largest collection of music I had to back up before working on the desktop was 212gb ( that's 81620 music tracks )
• 17 unrecoverable hard drives
• One desktop that caught on fire
• Three laptops that burnt out
• Over 56 missed appointments ( people not turning up to my office with no communication )

I certainly have ‘Feedback’ for Home Computer Services.

When my old PC (Fujitsu-Siemens) gave up the ghost a couple of years or so ago, Neil explained the situation to me and made the decision that as I was at that time on Windows XP and that was being wound down it would make more sense to switch to another supplier and he set me up on Windows 7.

This coincided with a free offer from TalkTalk for new ‘wireless’ equipment and Neil went about getting everything set up and running through the various changes that I would come across. Even with my limited knowledge of Computers, I have always found that he is available, always calls back, charges reasonable prices and has a vast knowledge that most people would envy. He is always available for good advice. I have had no hesitation in referring him to my friends and family.

AN EXCELLENT COMPUTER SERVICE

I first met Neil, through his advertisement in The Hadleigh News, early 2011.

I was having trouble with my Dell desk top, using the old Windows xp version.
Neil sorted the problems out, within the hour, at a very reasonable rate.
Then at the end of 2011, I wanted to buy a laptop for my Wife, I asked Neil’s advice and suggested the 15 ½” Fujitsu. All setup with software, Windows 7 and installed, in our house, to link with shared printers, documents, pictures etc on my desk top. All at a most reasonable price.
In April 2013, the old Dell desk top with Windows xp, became unstable and as xp will not be supported by Windows in 2014, together with that fact that Neil advised at the time, it will also be vulnerable to virus attack ( as all the media started to report in the spring of 2014, a year later!) . The Dell was fourteen years old!
It had to be replaced, I shopped around, asking advice of family and friends. Then, asked Neil who proposed a new build, to my requirements, set up, installed at home, linked to my Wife’s laptop. Including taking all my files from the old desktop and installing on the new, together with all existing software for camera, printers etc and new software and Windows 7. The price, as always very reasonable. At the end of the home setup, Neil demonstrated the removal of all files from the old Dell and the Billy Whiz stick he used, for the transfer.
A very excellent service, that I have no hesitation in recommending to family, friends or anyone who reads Neil’s blog.
Neil also provides an excellent reliable email and telephone service, to  discuss any issues you may have.
Finally, on his blog yesterday was an excellent piece on what to do about the latest virus threat “GAME OVER ZEUS” , that was reported in the media 3^rd June 2014  but as usual no solution from the media, just alarm !!, not so from Neil, who circulates to his clients a very useful “things to do”.

Gameover Zeus Virus and what it means to you.

Okay, first off, do not panic, It is a big problem but only if you let it become a problem.

Here are some extracts from a website today - I will then put my spin on it and you can take the steps you feel are needed.

The 'Gameover Zeus' virus has been temporarily disabled after the police launched attacks on the servers of the criminals behind the 'malware'.
But experts warn that computer users have only two weeks to protect their computer.

How do you get the Gameover Zeus computer virus? The virus installs itself on your computer when you click on a link from an unsolicited website or on a website. It will then send emails to other people from your computer - without your knowledge - allowing it to spread rapidly across the internet.

What can the virus do?
The virus will track everything you do on your computer, waiting for an opportunity to steal personal details, such as online banking information and passwords. These will then be sent back to the criminal network, who could use this information to gain access to your bank account.
If the software does not get enough information, it can lock your computer and hold it to ransom, demanding one Bitcoin - around £300 - to unlock it. If you don't pay, they can delete everything on your computer, including all photos and music.

How do I know if I have the virus?The National Crime Agency has warned that the computers of more than 15,000 people in the UK are already infected with the virus. Most of these will have been contacted by their internet service provider.

How long have I got to protect myself?
Police have taken down the criminal network's servers, temporarily disabling the virus. They estimate it will take them around two weeks to build it back up again.

Should I change my passwords?The National Crime Agency has advised changing passwords, as original passwords may have been compromised during the infection. It is also worth checking bank and credit card statements for any irregularities.

My take on the situation.

First off if you are running windows Xp then you need to update to a new system, there really is no holding back now.

If you have had your computer serviced or supplied by me then you will have Microsoft security essentials installed on it ( windows Vista and 7 ) and windows defender ( windows 8 & 8.1 ). This Is what I use, simply make sure the tick is green and if it isn't then open the programme and do what is asked and also run a FULL scan.  If you see something different to the above then make sure it is up to date and if it has expired then please all me with regards to your options.

Do you think your computer has been running slow lately ? Strange messages asking you to click to repair problems ? Low memory reports and your computer taking a long time to load and shut down ? If you have one or all of these issues then you may already be infected with various virus's etc. Please call me asap to ask about removal.

Change your passwords, do not use the same password on any accounts that have access to buy goods.

Do not use a slight variant with passwords, change them and make them different.

Do not store your passwords on a file in your computer, store them away from your pc.

Most important is not to open any email attachment's or links in your emails. If you are expecting a parcel or delivery, simply go to the web site direct and log into your account to follow it's progress.

Type the full address of the bank that you use in the browser, do not use short cuts or links from websites. You will notice I have asked you to type my address into the browser direct and not use the link I have included with it ( did you type it ? )

Common sense is the greatest weapon against this very real and very harmful threat. However, everyday we are all faced with these problems but this is now highlighted due to the potential problems and size of the virus's.

If you have any questions then please feel free to email me or call me direct. I have set aside five days in the next three weeks and this includes weekends to get peoples pc's up to date, to service and if needed wipe your computer and reinstall to ensure there are no problems.

The problems are real, but they always have been, don't panic, just give me a call.

Come in Windows xp, your time is up.

It has certainly come along very quickly this year. The months have flown past and now it is very real for everyone with Windows xp. Your security and updates will end from April 8th 2014.

With all the help in the world I could not have put it better than the paragraph below.

“like simultaneously switching off your car’s ABS, airbags, lights and removing the seatbelts. Yes you could still drive around fine but I wouldn’t fancy your chances on a dark, wet night.”


Most people do not want the expense of a new system but for the majority its losing the familiarity of everything. All the horror story's of Windows 8.1 are simply not true as I am sure everyone of my customers will vouch for. I have built and transferred more new pc's this year than ever before and every one has windows 8.1 on it and every customer has been left feeling familiar with the new system.

More reasons to change.

Better security for online banking and transactions.
Pc's start and are useable in roughly ten seconds.
Shutting down is a simple quick process.
The virus system is superb and free.
New machine with new technology.
Crystal clear images.
Fast graphic manipulation.
Web site browsing at speeds you will not believe ( even with poor broadband )
